Boston-born Haitian-American lyricist, rapper, and visual artist Shellz premieres the music video for “Slide” on Rhyme Junkie.
Shellz refined her vocal chops while growing up, singing in the church choir, followed in 2007 by taking on the role of DJ Shellz, pulling the trigger on the hottest hip-hop and reggae tracks at the freshest venues. With her talent for cyphers, Shellz saw the handwriting on the wall. It was time for her to turn her talents loose. She began writing and recording.
In 2018, she dropped her mixtape, No Category, receiving massive approbation for her confident, hard-hitting flow. Following with the powerful – ily, she demonstrated that her talent was for real. But Shellz isn’t all about rough and tough rhyme slinging. She has a softer side – one that she reveals on Slide.
When Slide first hit the airwaves, it made a big impact, becoming the most requested new track on college radio stations. The track exhibits the vast range of her talent, going from the potent aggressive spitting of her earlier tracks to the cashmere emo-infused hues of Slide.

The track opens on elegant, delicate colors atop a trap-lite beat. When Shellz’s creamy tones enter, her voice takes on a tender emo flow, as flavors of pop, smooth R&B, hip-hop, and tropical tints roll through the music. The rhythm ripples with supple grace, while maintaining a measured low-slung subdued brawniness.
The lyrics, cool and sexy, conjure up erotic tumescent images.
“Keep it wet like Dasani / Singing songs like Kehlani / Hide and seek you can’t find me / Up in the sheets all night B / Hooked on the D I might be / Don’t do loans you spoil me / Yea we shopping on spree / We be wild like banshees.”
And then the lusciously moist hook: “Daddy said he wants me all the time / If he wants me he gon hit my line (bleeep, bleeep) / Yeah I know he’s always on the grind / So I keep it wet (scooo, scooo) / So he could slide.”
Totally dope, Slide delivers oozing sensuality, smart wordplay, a compact lush rhythm, and the delectable tones of Shellz.
